Hiatis
Phew!
Was that summer exhausting or what? Lasted all the way to the first week of October - not too bad, wha?
A Hiatis from my reality. Therefore my reality has changed. The only things I focused on this summer were:
My puppy ~
Mr. Harley, who is now 8 months old, and I add, trained. Which is no small feat in itself. Have never experienced being a 'person' of a pet. It has been a patience trying, and at the same time, wonderful experience. In fact, you should see Harley now. He's crying for the little stuffed bear I put up because he gutted it and continued to eat the insides. I just don't understand why a dog will eat something that will make it vomit - oh yes... let's put that in the perspective of wine... now I get it.
Harley tonight with his teddy - when he was still intact.
Knitting ~
This summer I had the chance to visit GNK in Charlottetown, PE ~ was a little disappointed. I donno, I guess I expected an intimate shop off Queen Street, full of Island wool. Instead I found a huge room that reminded me of a Market - coffee and baked goods, gifts and novelties, and at the very back a wall of 'I can get it anywhere' wool. I came to the conclusion they are primarily about selling pre-made goods. There were ladies behind a glass wall knitting sweaters on these huge machines (sorry don't know what they were).
Had a defining moment though... They have a rack of premade toques. A lady and her husband were in the back close to me selecting wool, and he said to her, Why don't you just buy the hat? It's already made, then you don't have to go through this. She looked around in horror to see if anyone had heard - our eyes met. I smiled at her knowingly and said, He just doesn't get it yet does he? We all laughed and moved along.
Left: empty handed. That's how uninspired I was.
Also visited Briggs & Little in Harvey, NB ~ What a wonderful shop full of wool of oh so many colors, superb service, and great patterns to purchase (or pre-made items if so inclined). This was a fun trip. I was making the skully sweater (another story) from Stitch n Bitch and needed 2 more skiens of a color. I called the shop about a month in advance and they had the lot I required. The offered to mail it, but I knew I would be in NB over the summer and wanted to see thier shop.
So, off we went - My father in law leading the charge (he loves yarn shops, I'm not sure what it is but everytime I want to go he offers to join me), with my mother and law, husband and puppy in tow. Only a little disapointed as I was hoping to see the Briggs & Little sheep. The gentleman working kinda laughed at me - like where would they get the time to raise sheep, when they have all this wool to make - Anyhow they do use the local farmer's sheep and we could have gone down the road a bit, but it was bloody hot that day.
Left: with what I came for in addition to patterns (sockies and mits) and some 'seconds' for mitts this winter :). My mother in law left with a bag full and a pattern for a man's sweater (discovered father in law's mission :)
Here's a pic of the sweater for my honey - now completed. To all knitters: It's true what they say about knitting something for someone who doesn't knit. They truly don't appreciate the craft.
C'est fini
Here's a pic of, well, have a looksee.
Mom in-law finished hoody from Stitch n' Bitch, and she put a zipper in it. Isn't it great?
Other focuses were, my garden that has now gone to seed :( Discovered Mr. Harley LOVES tomatoes. In the back yard yesterday he was scaling the fence to get at the higher tomates. Yes, he makes himself sick on them - and again, I guess I understand. A little Cabernet has the same effect on me. Actually it's a lot of Cabernet, but it's all relative.
Anyhow, this is the 1st entry in quite some time, so I will close for now. I must get back to ... well, knitting of course :)
